What should I wear?
Please wear clothing that you can move around in easily. You can wear socks or have bare feet. You may want an extra layer for relaxation at the end of the class.
What do I need to bring?
Bring a towel – you can place it under your forehead when lying prone (on your front). I provide all mats and any other equipment that you may need.
What can I expect at my first class?
Before starting, you will need to fill in our health check form – this is for your safety, so please make sure you are early to allow time to fill in the form, and please fill it in accurately and honestly.
Don’t worry that you don’t get everything right in the first class. It takes time to develop your body awareness and understanding of Pilates, which can’t be done within one hour. Regular attendance over weeks and months will show improvements so be patient!
Can I just turn up to the class?
To keep our numbers low, and to ensure no-one is sent away disappointed, I ask that everyone books in each week (except with a four week course). This can be done at class on the day, by text, phone call, or email.
How does the four week course work?
The four week course is a way to save you money and encourage you to attend class regularly. Payment is due on the first week of the 4 weeks, or prior to the first class. The course ensures your space is available for you during the 4 weeks from the date of payment. The course also allows you to attend a different class if you are not able to make your regular session, e.g. if you are holiday, or unwell etc.
Are there changing/toilet facilities available?
There are toilets available at all venues, which you can change in, but there are no showers.
I’m a beginner, will the class be suitable?
All my classes are adjusted to suit those attending that class. I offer many options, variations and modifications during the class, so each exercise is easily adjusted to suit the level you want/are able to work at. Whether you are new to Pilates or have been doing it for years, it is not a competition – you work to the level you can on that day. This doesn’t mean that you won’t work hard though!! All classes differ depending on which exercises we do – some weeks may be easier for you, others will be harder.
I have an injury/bad back/sciatica, can I still do Pilates?
It is very likely that you can, depending on the nature of the problem. Please get in touch with me before attending the class to discuss it further. Regular attendance at the classes should help with most injuries/bad backs over time by improving posture, strengthening and rebalancing tight muscles, stretching and mobilising muscles, overall helping the body to work more efficiently and therefore reducing the likelihood of injuries re-occurring.
I have tried Pilates but I don’t feel very much happening?
It takes time and practice for the brain to use muscles that have stopped working effectively due to injury, childbirth, surgery, or other things. Be patient you will see gains in your flexibility, posture and muscle strength.
Will Pilates help me lose weight?
No, not really. A healthy diet and aerobic exercise is the only way to lose weight. Pilates will, however help you to tone and lengthen muscles, and help with posture so you get the appearance of looking slimmer.
Can anyone attend Pilates?
Yes everyone of any age or fitness level can join Pilates.
I have recently had a baby. Is Pilates suitable for me?
Absolutely, Pilates is perfect to strengthen the pelvic floor muscles. Pilates is also excellent for anyone recovering from a Hysterectomy operation.
